A hard days work Empty A hard days work

Post by Daniel Grayson Sat Jul 12, 2014 10:41 am

A scream was heard, piercing the sound barrier of the Leaky Cauldron, followed by a chattering of the crowd. "Help! Theres been a murder!" screamed one of the bystanders. The victim squirming and gagging on the ground stood no chance and with his last breath, he pointed towards the barman. "It was him!" He coughed up blood and stopped breathing. The crowd turned to face the man by the bar, who stared at them, awkwardly cleaning a glass. "GET HIM!" shouted the bald man from the crowd but before they could do anything he disappeared into thin air.

A few minute later.....

Daniel was the first be assigned this case, his supervisor said he was the best man for the job and without hesitation, he accepted the case. The supervisor told him to be aware for another co-worker that will be helping him with the case. He didn't say who and left it at that. Heading to the scene of the crime, he headed to the Leaky Cauldron to gather the evidence he needed to arrest this mysterious killer. The pub continued like every other day as if nothing have ever happened, although, people were all murmuring about the death of Peter Borden.

He managed to get a description of the culprit, about ye high and ye wide, shoulder length hair. He had a scar across his eye, looked a little bit like Anakin from Star Wars except with the beard. Judging by the victim and the half empty glass on the table, Daniel quickly deduced that his victim, Peter Borden was poisoned. The question was, who was the bartender and why did he drug him. The poison used for this murder was Hemlock, a perennial herbaceous flowering plant widely known for being highly poisonous. "Did you see where he went?" he asked, scribbling away in his notepads. "I don't know, he appariated before I could do anything," replied the bald man earlier from the crowd.

Aria had few days ago decided to become Auror finally. She had to go through training also too and so on. Now it was time to have her first job as Auror, her supervisor thought she was ready for it. She supposed have even partner there but she didn't really ask who that person even was. She forget to ask it, she was just too excited about her first job. She walked towards the Leaky Couldron where she supposed to go since there happened a murder. She had to go find out who was mysterious killer in this murder.

She walked in and saw one man who was few years older than her asking questions about what had happened here. She wasn't really sure what she should do now exactly. It was her first job out of training so she did take a deep breath and then walked where that man was, who she thought was also Auror since he was asking questions there, the same man who she saw before.

"Hey," she said quietly then there. "I guess I'm supposed be your partner for this case," she said then to him with a small smile. "What exactly did happen here?" she asked then with curiosity and looked around here. She couldn't tell yet by looking how that murder could have happened, she wasn't yet that good at it.

Daniel was still asking the bald man questions, when his partner had arrived and started talking to him. He quickly held an index finger in the air to stop her. "So did you know what the bartender name was?" he asked but the man shook his head. "The bartender was new here, no one has seen him before. He didn't talk much," replied the man. Daniel scribbled away again on his notepad, writing the following words with his neat handwriting 'new to work, didn't talk much'.

He tried to think of anything else he might need to ask, he couldn't think of anything. "Thank you for your cooperation. You've been most helpful," he shook the man hand before turning around to meet his partner. He greeted her with a warm smile, putting away his notepad in his back pocket. "It seemed our victim, Peter Borden was poisoned earlier this morning by the bartender, but he appariated before anyone could get to him," he quickly run down the details to his new partner. "No one knows what his motive was or who he is, apparently he was new to work and he didn't talk much. This is going to be a long ride," he took a deep breath after he said this, handing her the picture he quickly drew of the culprit.

Aria then kept silent there and did let that other Auror to ask questions. She herself could have asked them too but she had no idea what to ask exactly since she even wasn't exactly sure what had happened here even. So she just was quiet there and waited until her partner is done with questions.

When he was done and did also shake the persons hand who answered to the questions. Then she heard her partner to tell the details what he had get from here now. She nodded on that all. So one man was poisoned, no one doesn't know who did it, that man was new here and didn't talk much. "It will be very difficult to find out who did it now since we know very little about that person," she said then and wasn't really sure what to do now. She did took that picture what he handed to her then. She haven't seen that man before so she wasn't sure who he was. "That's how that culprit looked like, never seen him before. So we should look for man like him?" she basically asked it and looked up at her partner now.

"I guess I should introduce myself too since yeah we will work now together for awhile, I'm Aria Lockwood," she then said with a small smile to him even. She just thought it would be good idea to know each others name awhile they are partners.

Daniel sighed, running his hand through his long and curly hair. The longer he tried to deny the inevitable, the more he realised she was right. If no one knew who this mysterious killer was, he had no lead beside a picture and a couple of notes. He took back the picture he drawn and tucked it under his armpit. "Well, it is a start," he nodded. "The only problem is that he could've changed by now, he could've drank polyjuice potion for all I know," he shook his head, grimly. "He'd be long gone by now," he added quickly, looking at his partner.

Anyone who knew Daniel would say he was cold-hearted and rarely cared about anyone but himself. He wasn't exactly being nice to Aria, he was trying to be professional beside, the last thing he wanted to do was cause trouble. He smiled back at her. "A pleasure to meet you, Aria. My name is Daniel, Daniel Valentine," he shook her hand. "Would you like a drink or something to eat," he asked. He really shouldn't eat or drink here after recent event but, he was famished and the Leaky Cauldron had good food.

Aria listened now what he said and nodded quietly on that. Yeah that man could have changed now his face and so on for sure if he didn't want to be found out who he was. She sighed. "You might be right about he could have changed himself by now. So we basically have nothing right now," she said then and wondered what they should do now. She had no ideas at all.

Aria other hand was opposite to Daniel. She didn't really didn't care so much about herself that others. She have never been that selfish girl. "It's pleasure to meet you too Daniel," she said then with smile. She wasn't really hungry right now so she wasn't sure if she should eat now or then later. "I'm not really hungry right now so I guess just something to drink sounds still good but not food right now," she then said and took a seat somewhere was available.

He thought of all possible scenario from polyjuice potion to secret hideout, for all he know he could've disappeared off the grid. Either way, Daniel became more determined to track down this 'bartender' and put him in his rightful place, which was in Azkaban. "Pretty much," he nodded in agreement, there was no denying it. Hopefully he could track this killer before it was too late, mostly to bring closer to the family of the victim and because he wouldn't forgive himself if he didn't. "The poison used for this murder was called Hemplock, its a herb most commonly known for being highly poisonous," he briefly described the potion. Trust Daniel to know about potion, it was his life time passion beside being a detective and all. It was safe to say he was an expert with potion, give him a question and he'll give the answer. Need a potion and don't know the ingredient, he'll give it to you of the top of his head. "He was seen by his wife choking after taking a small sip of his drink, his face went instantly green and blood started to pour out of his face before he falling down," he closed his eyes and shook his head solemnly at the grim details. He's seen worse things than this during his time as an Auror, although, this was pretty gruesome itself.

He turned to bar, taking his seat and ordered both of them a fire whiskey. Then he paused. "You drink right?" he asked making sure before he ordered. Whilst he waited he looked at the menu to see what tickled his fancy. "So you new to the workforce?" he asked, trying to make light conversation. He looked up at her and smiled again then returned to the menu.

Aria didn't know so much about potions, she wasn't that good in that subject for sure but she liked that lesson. She nodded when she described the potion what that man had drank. Also when she described how he could have been murdered. It wasn't really that good to hear it so she just nodded once again. "Oh I see, so that bartender gave to him that drink, maybe there is some kind of fingerprints on that glass or something like that," she then said something finally.

"Yes I drink but not much," she said then when Daniel asked if he drinks. She didn't like alcohol so much but she drink it few times still but never that much she won't remember next day nothing. "Yes I'm new. It's my first job as Auror, to be honest," she said then with smile, she wasn't sure if he liked to work together with someone who really is newbie in this field of work.

"I have thought of that," Daniel nodded, glad to see his partner was not useless at all and she actually knew a bit about detective. The last two workers he had, had no idea what they were doing and they were clumsy which can be frustrating at times. "Unfortunately, I couldn't find a single fingerprint. Somehow, this guy went a long way to cover his track," he told her, curling his lips with irritation. He pulled out his wand, aimed it at the half empty glass Paul had drank and hovered it to Aria. "Feel free to have a look yourself," he said. He didn't know what he was hoping to achieve out of this, maybe he hoped that she could find something he missed, maybe a strand of hair or some kind of grime that he missed, but he knew that was only wistful thinking. "Just don't drink it, I don't want to return to the office and report that I lost my partner on her first day," he struck his tongue out, jokingly and chuckled to himself.

He was cold-hearted and careless but, he wasn't boring and that was something he could take pride on. Daniel loved to crack a joke or two, it made life less dull. If he put it that way. He nodded and ordered them two fire whiskey and ordered himself a chicken parmigiana. "That'd be twenty sickles, mate," replied the bartender with the cocky, Australian accent. Daniel took out his wallet and placed the sickle on the table. The bartender took it and went to get their drinks. "My shout," he told Aria before she got confused. Then the Australian returned with their drink, Daniel thanked the man and waited until he was out of earshot. Taking a small sip, letting the liquor run down his throat, turning to his partner "So how is it going for you so far?" he asked, smirking at her. He remembered his first day, surprisingly instead of feeling nervous he was really excited like a little kid waiting for his ice cream.

Aria wasn't really that clueless girl, she was quite smart one and that's why she basically did choose this job. She could be useful to people and she also could learn something new from here, also she could use her brain for solve something. She nodded once again. She then looked at that half empty glass, she didn't touch it to let her own fingerprints get on it. The comment about her drinking it and then die basically because of it she did chuckle there too. "I never even thought of drinking it, I'm not that stupid," she said with a smile. She knew he did meant it as joke or so but she still had to say it.

She looked at that glass and also she couldn't really find no fingerprints or hair or anything like that from there. "Yeah you're true, there is nothing what could help us on this case," she said and sighed. They will have to find something what would help them in it but she had no idea what it could be.

She nodded when she said it's his shout right now when she payed the bartender. "Oh okay," she even added just in the case. When her drink was on the table then she did take on zip from it. "So far it's been okay. I'm quite excited and also a nervous a little bit," she answered honestly.
