Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. A Nice Summers Day [OPEN] Empty A Nice Summers Day [OPEN]

Post by Guest Tue Aug 04, 2009 12:47 am

It was a beautiful day in London and many witches and wizards were thoroughly enjoying the sun out in Diagon Alley. Nick however was not one of those. He sat rather gloomily outside at one of the many outdoor tables positioned outside the front of the "Lazy Wizards Resturant." Today was dragging, it was torture watching other Hogwarts students skip down the street, some buying school supplies, some hanging out with friends, some were even out on dates. He missed the castle, not for the classes but for the company. Things were made even worse by his choice of work. Perhaps if he quit and applied to work in the new ice cream place down the street he would see people his age pop in for something? "The Lazy Wizards." was for old people. Sighing he Reached into the pockets of his robes and took out a pen. He the grabbed a napkin and wrote down things that he would need to start thinking of buying. If he managed to accumulate enough Galleon's he would deffinetely be buying a new broomstick. His old one had taken a turn for the worst lately and flying on it was dangerous buisness, he also needed a new wand and his school books. He sighed as he wondered what his friends were up to. His best friend George was still on holiday in Sweden so it had been a while since he had received an owl from him.

Sitting up he glanced down the street at a group of giggling girls, face's covered in make-up and arms full of colourful shopping bags. Squinting slightly he racked his brains as to whether or not he knew them. They looked a little older than him but he was pretty sure the one in the middle was a Slytherin. Standing up a plan formulated in his mind. This place wasnt busy, perhaps the big boss would give him the afternoon off? Stuffing the pen and napkin into his robes he swaggered into the resturant.

"Boss, is it ok if I shoot off, I have some stuff to do and we aren't really busy here." It wasn't the most polite request in the world but the barman shrugged and gave a grunt, which Nicholas took as a yes. Smiling he headed back out into the sunshine. Perhaps he could catch those girls up and see what they were up to. It was a shame none of his friends were in Diagon Alley today, they could have met up and had a laugh. Still he could always make new ones? He laughed to himself then set of in the direction of Gringotts. If he was going to do anything he would need to take out some money.

A Nice Summers Day [OPEN] Empty Re: A Nice Summers Day [OPEN]

Ben was wondering down Diagon Alley. He had bought pretty much everything that he needed. He ran through the list of what he needed in his mind. Parchment, quills, books, robes. He already had a wand from last year. He seemed to have grown a lot over the summer though. He didn't have many galleons left. His parents gave him some galleons to buy school stuff and was allowed to spend the rest. He wished he didn't have to buy new robes, but they really were too small for him.

Ben reached into his pocket to count how many galleons he had left. Not enough. He wanted to buy a broomstick, second years were allowed their own brooms. He really wanted to make the Quidditch team this year. He thought he would be a good Beater, though would try for any position if it meant a place on the team. He loved Quidditch and always had. He had been an avid supporter of the Appleby Arrows all his life and it was his dream to someday make it onto the team. He wasn't much good at a lot of magic, so he had to place his hopes on a more likely career.

Almost bumping into someone brought Ben back to reality. He hadn't been paying attention, as usual. He looked up and saw a boy, a lot older than himself. He thought he might have seen the boy around Hogwarts but wasn't 100% sure. Almost everyone went to Hogwarts though, so it wouldn't be surprising if he had seen him around. "Sorry." he apologized, looking up at the boy. He wasn't that intimidated by the older boy, oddly enough. Then again, Ben didn't find many people intimidating, he was quite an outgoing person. "How are you?" he asked, trying to distract the boy from thinking he was a clumsy idiot who went around walking into people.

A Nice Summers Day [OPEN] Empty Re: A Nice Summers Day [OPEN]

In truth Nicholas had been as much at fault as the young boy who bumped into him. His mind had wandered as it so often did to Quidditch. He was determined to make the team this year, he did not care about if they interfered with his studies Hogwarts. For him, this year, Hogwarts was just a place to socialise, there were no exam's in the sixth year so why not? Nick had played seeker on the slytherin team for two years in his third and fourth form so he fancied his chances. It was around this time the young boy walked into him. What Nick had been holding in his hand fell on to the floor and he rushed to recover it. A few silver coins and his leather purse. After picking them up he stood to his full height, looking down at the boy "You should watch where your going kid. Hey havent I seen you around Hogwarts?" Nick was a little taken aback when the boy asked how he was, he was polite and that was an honourable quality "Im fine thanks, whats your name? Where are you heading?"

This was one of the reasons Nick was a popular character, he never held grudges and was always willing to have a joke over an awkward situation. There was no point causing a scene, the boy was obviously sorry. He wasn't to keen on bullies. Nick offered the boy a smile...

Ben was a bit surprised when the boy seemed to reply. He had expected a reply, but a shorter one. This boy seemed to actually want to talk to him. A lot of older students looked down on younger kids and thought they were superior to them. Ben was glad this guy didn't seem to be one of them. He hoped he wasn't one of them anyway.

"I'm Ben." he introduced himself. He kept to his nickname. He never introduced himself as Benjamin Macmillan, though his parents still did sometimes. He didn't like his full name, it sounded odd. Benjamin. "You might have seen me around." he responded, wondering how old this guy was. Ben didn't think he was a Hufflepuff, he would have recognised a Hufflepuff from around the common room. Unless he was one of the older ones, perhaps. "What's your name?" he asked, returning the boy's question. He might recognise the boys name, though he doubted it, as he looked a lot older than himself.

Ben didn't ask many questions usually, unless it was to keep a conversation going. He was quite a social person, but he wouldn't pester people with the basic how old are you, what house are you in sort of questions. He would just ask about a Quidditch team or something which actually led to a conversation. "Do you play Quidditch?" he asked the boy. It was worth a go, he thought.

"My name's Nicholas, you can just call me Nick for short though everyone else does. I think I have seen you around the castle, I see alot of students though, your obviously not a slytherin? We would have probably met before now." It was always awkward when you met someone in the street and the conversation was dragging, had it been another sixth year no doubt they would have parted and gone their seperate ways by now but younger children were always enthusiastic. When Quidditch was mentioned Nick's face lit up. Everyone loved Quidditch, now they were getting into decent conversation. "Why dont we talk and walk Im heading to Gringotts why dont you tag along?" Assuming Ben agreed the two began walking.

Nick began talking almost instantly "Anyone who is anyone play's quidditch Ben, honestly if you want to make it big at Hogwarts get yourself on your house's team. I played seeker in third and fourth year, gave it a break last year but Im returning to it after the summer. Do you support a team?"

Of course he supported a team Nick thought to himself, all boy's loved Quidditch. Since he had been young he had supported Puddlemere United, his father had played for them for a few seasons but Nick didn't want to brag. Glancing sideways at Ben he offered him some sixth year advice "Playing Quidditch at Hogwarts is a sure fire way to earn you some celebrity status. Im talking girls, party invites, you name it chances are you'll get it. How old are you though? You dont look built for it, if you dont mind my saying so. He raised an eyebrow slightly as he took in the boys appearence. He wasn't very tall and pretty scrawny in comparison to a few boys he knew. Still he could probably play seeker.
