Start Guide: Application & Claiming
Welcome to Potter’s Army

Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

Start Guide: Application & Claiming Li9olo10

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Start Guide: Application & Claiming Empty Start Guide: Application & Claiming

Hello Everyone.

We're continually working to make the application process easier, so this particular post is in a state of revision all the time.

PA is a living work-in-progress, so the application and claiming processes change all the time too. And that can, and does, sometimes cause confusion.  This guide has been created by and edited by all sorts of folks from the admin team in order to keep it fresh.

So, after a bit of umming and ah-ing, one of our admins came up with a solution to this: a topic which links you to all of those topics, and gives you a sensible order to do them in, thus simplifying the system for You

Some of you may realize that there have been things similar to this in the past, widgets in particular, but none have really gone into much explanation, so hopefully this sorts out that problem.

Anyway, the first few things on this list are things that you must do, so make sure to read each instruction to see whether it's a compulsory instruction or not.

Note: The best way to use this list is to make use of the tabbing feature most browsers now have. Just open each link in a new tab, do as requested, then return to this topic, and move onto the next instruction. If you don't have tabbing options, then I suggest you keep more than one window open.

  1. First thing is first, you need to make your character application. Until this is done, you wont be able to do anything else. However, you also need to follow the character creation template. You can find this here. There are instructions in the topic on how to use the template inside that topic.

  2. You need to actually make your application now. To do this, copy-paste the template onto your clipboard, then make a new topic here. Once you've done that an admin will come by and check your application, and accept it, or request that you change or clarify something in it.

  3. Following making your application, you should go secure your face claim, make sure you use the one you chose in your application! To do this, you need to go here and follow the prompts inside the topic.

  4. Next is a bit of paperwork for us, and wont really apply to you if this is for your first character. If this isn't your first character, we need you to tell us who's character this is, so to do this you need to register your multiple characters
here for us to be kept up to date on who you are, and how many of you there are Smile

  5. If you are creating a graduate character, you can go on and skip this section. If you're a student, you mustread this and do as it says.
So, as a student, you clearly need to be at school, and if you're at school, you need to have classes. So make sure to go here to register for all your classes. Depending on what grade your character is in there will be a few different rules as to what you can do. All this is explained in the topic.

So, once you've gone through all the rigmarole of making your character acceptable, and brilliant, it's time to get into the fun, optional stuff, here solely to optimise your roleplaying experience.

  6. If you're a graduate, you'll be looking for a job, if not for moneys, to have a good time with your friends. Same goes for students, a part time job is a great way to get out of the castle for awhile, and to escape the hum-drum school stuff. As such, you'll be wanting to go here to apply for your character's dream job.

NOTE: Mentioning that a character either has had/is/or wants to work in any given job or role on the site does NOT guarantee that character automatically has that job or role. Administrative staff adds roles or jobs to characters through the jobs enlistment threads, claims section, etc.  They are not given or guaranteed from the applications.

  7. Of course with all the dark things going on in the wizarding world, you're more than likely to want to join the call to arms, there's usually some feud going on, so if you want to be involved in all the action here is the place to go. Go to that forum in order to sign up to one of the site's factions.

  8. And finally, in order to finish your character completely, you'll want to apply for a few little things to go with your character. Come here to apply for any extra ordinary magical items you want your character to have. Come here for any wacky, dangerous or rare magical creature you want your character to own. Or, come here to specify which special abilities your character may have.

So there you have it. we hope that this has helped you in some way with your character creation journey. We hope that your character fills you with much happiness and pride, and provides much enjoyment for you, for years to come Smile

Many thanks to all the many admins who either created or have worked to update this to keep it fresh!
