Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Charms - Lesson 1: Sixth Years Empty Charms - Lesson 1: Sixth Years

Post by Kaiden Poliakoff Sat Oct 08, 2016 1:54 am

[OOC: This year of Charms is optionalStudents in this class have been taking it for years. They have just completed their OWLs, and Kaiden is accepting students who made either an O, EE, or A on their exams. If they want to continue in their seventh year, they will need to do quite well. Keep that in mind as this thread goes on, and know that it's meant to last most of this term, so have the students interact as much as you can!]

One of the last lessons of the day, and quite frankly he felt just a little bit tired. There was something about teaching that was tiring, though he found that he actually did enjoy it. Being tired, not so much. But it was fine, once the lesson was over he would have time to himself, for however long that lasted and he would be able to sort some things out.

Things that he thought would be helpful. Being at Hogwarts was a good thing in so many ways, not just because he was able to revisit the castle without having to come up with some kind of excuse for it, but because it would help him, hopefully, remember more about himself and the past he had mostly forgotten.

At the very least, he remembered some things now, but he wanted to be able to remember everything. Walking the corridors of the place that had been a part of that life for a long seven years would no doubt help, even if he couldn't experience things the same way he had before. The new professor sat at his desk, watching the students begin to walk in and take their seats. Sixteen-year-olds all filed in and Kaiden couldn't help but feel like this class wouldn't go as smoothly as the others had because he was in the same age range as them.

After all, students did tend to have a problem with professors who were close in age to themselves. Kaiden couldn't let that bring him down though, he had to keep doing what he was doing and show them that he was there for a reason. He felt as though a couple of the students should have seemed familiar to him, especially one that wore Slytherin colors. That felt weird. But he was sure it would be even worse with the seventh years, he would have to brace himself for that.

He really hoped there wouldn't be any problems now though.

"My name is Kaiden Poliakoff, call me what you will so long as it's appropriate." His words were lazy but his tone was serious. "Today we'll start off with the water-making spell, does anyone know the incantation for the spell?"

Charms - Lesson 1: Sixth Years Empty Re: Charms - Lesson 1: Sixth Years

Apollo was not looking forward to this class as he was for ones like Curative Magic, Herbology or Potions. Although Potions was amusing to him for entirely different reasons than just the usual one: that he was really good at it.

He had only made an A on his Charms OWL exam, and didn't really feel entirely qualified to be sitting in this lecture beside his brother, who was vastly more prepared and knowledgable.

Speaking of that, Christian already had his hand up, perhaps emboldened by the fact that their new professor was only four years their senior and thus had attended school alongside them at one point or other. Apollo wanted to groan, but held it back for the sake of the new guy. That is, Professor Poliakoff. What a name, that. He wasn't sure if it was fun to say and that's why he appreciated it, or if it was the alliteration.

And, either way, he was avoiding the fact that they had been asked a question, which Christian seemed fully prepared to answer. He didn't wait for the professor to call on him; he just waited for Kaiden to glance his way and then spoke up.

"Aguamenti? I think that's the only one, but..." He shrugged as if to say that he was pretty sure he'd gotten the answer right, but if not, at least he had an excuse. He even went so far as to start flipping through the pages of his book to check himself. "I think one of our professors mentioned an Extinguishing Spell but I don't know if that's related or not."

Apollo let his elbows pull to either side of his desk so he could settle his chin atop his arms. It was going to be a long year.

Charms - Lesson 1: Sixth Years Empty Re: Charms - Lesson 1: Sixth Years

The first lecture and she is already late?
How irresponsible. How badly.

Charlotte continued repeating these words while balancing with the books in her hands and ran towards the classroom.
She could not explain why she is late. This happened for the first time in her life, and she really did not know how she should behave.
Finally, the door was in front of her and Charlotte paused for a moment before she opened it.

New teacher? Really? It can not be worse worse obviously.
"Um, excuse me, because I'm late" she murmured, then sat down at the only free seat, behind the guy who helped her during summer to find her way home and another guy who she did not know.

When she heard the question just wanted to raise her hand but mister 'I know everything' has already answered the question.
She just frowned and shook her head and then proceeded to follow the lecture.

Charms - Lesson 1: Sixth Years Empty Re: Charms - Lesson 1: Sixth Years

Ace had sat herself on the other side of Christian because... she could. And because she had no other reason to sit anywhere else. She had all of her books out, parchment, a quill, was already squinting around the classroom as though she could get ahead.

And, because of her over-diligence, she was a second behind. Her hand was quick after Christian's but his answer rolled off his tongue much quicker and she dropped her hand, shooting him an irritable look. She could hear a snort behind her and turned in her seat to glare. Molly and Margo had taken up the spots behind her, and Margo was more than entertained at Ace's enthusiasm. Molly was drawing on the inside of her arm.

Ace mouthed for Margo to shove off, glancing towards the girl who had come in late and taken up residence next to Molly. Molly had not even looked up. Of course.

(I suppose Ace and Charlotte met each other during the summer)

Charlotte looked at the girl who was sitting in front of her. Ace? Is that her name?
Even if Charlotte was sitting barely twenty centimeters behind Ace, she just waved her hand in greeting and smiled.
This, knowing people here, was still quite an unusual thing for Charlotte and she didn't want to overdo it.

At least she will have no problem with the girl next to her.
The girl was occupied by writing or drawing something on her hand and apparently decided not to let anything or anyone upset her.
Charlotte looked down at her book, determined to at least read the lesson.

Charms - Lesson 1: Sixth Years Empty Re: Charms - Lesson 1: Sixth Years

He felt bad, in a way, that he really didn't recognize the students in his class. At any other point in his life, he would have, probably, because of their ages. But with what had happened to him, Kaiden couldn't help but he at a loss when someone even greeted him in a casual manner. He didn't remember anyone, really. He tried to fake it, though, because he didn't want a lot of people knowing what had happened to him.

He'd decided that he would continue on, even if it meant faking, and he would only tell someone what had happened if it was absolutely necessary for him to.

He'd seem a few hands go up in the air to answer his question; a Gryffindor girl, Ravenclaw boy, and two Hufflepuffs. One of the Hufflepuffs, the boy, had been the quickest to answer, though.

Kaiden nodded, shooting the boy a smile. "Right, that's correct. Very good." When it came to classes, he himself had never been very good at most of them from what he could remember, not that it was much. But what he could remember was the he he had a different attitude when it came to Charms classes. He'd always found them interesting, and even after graduating(and while in Greece) he was always curious about learning new things about Charms.

"We're going to try it out ourselves." He said. "Some of you might have tried it already, some may not have. You're all going to do it one by one, by going up here and casting it yourselves." he continued. "I'll start you off by showing it, then you may all decide in what order you'd like to do it." Kaiden finished, moving toward the stand and bowl he had set up for the exercise.

"Augamenti." he said softly, moving his hand in a gentle side-ways "s" motion as an icy blue light formed at the tip on his wand. The water formed soon after, filling the bowl half way. "I do believe that since you answered first, you can try it first," he stated, glancing at Christian.
